Question 1 A proposed major retail/office development in a suburban area generates an additional outbound volume of 300

Post by answerhappygod »

Question 1
A proposed major retail/office development in a suburban area
generates an additional outbound volume of 300 vehicles per hour to
be carried by a six – lanes (3 lanes each direction) connector road
of that carries 2,400 vph in the outbound direction.
Assuming a lane capacity (C) of 900 vph, it is known that the
existing travel time rate (TTR) for the roadway can be estimated
as:
TTR = 1.2 + b [(V/C)4] = min./mile
Where: b = 1.1 when V/C < 1.0
=
1.25 when V/C > or = 1.0
You are to calculate the change in volume and the
change in travel time rate from the additional
traffic:
a) Using the standard Traffic Engineering method of traffic
impact analysis.
b) Using a pivot point analysis, assuming:
➢ Ev = -0.4
➢ Et = +1.0
c) Compare the results of the two methods and comment on
their significance.
