Given: The shed in the figure has double 2X6 knee braces on each column to resist the lateral force. Lumber is Redwood (open grain). The braces are to be connected to the columns with 16d common nails. Lateral seismic force to roof diaphragm is WEL = 66 plf. Heights h1=12 ft, h2= 4ft. Use LRFD procedure and use the appropriate LRFD load factor for seismic forces. Determine: 1. The required number of nails for the brace connection, assume dry conditions; 2. The required number of nails for the brace connection, assume wet conditions; 3. Repeat the problem for ASD procedure and using 16d box nails. - LATERAL FORCE A4 COLUMN PLAN 2.
