(b) A geotechnical assessment of stability of a critical slope against rainfall-induced landslides recommends installation of horizontal drains and construction of a capillary barrier system. In addition, installations of tensiometers and piezometers at the crest and toe of the slope are also recommended. Briefly explain how these recommendations work to prevent rainfall-induced slope failures for the slope. Use sketches if necessary. (10 Marks)
