A 22-storey apartment block with a basement is to be constructed on a raft foundation which will rest at 5 m depth from the ground surface and has 20 x 28 m dimensions. The ground water level is also at 5 m depth. The gross foundation pressure is 275 kPa. The soil profile consists of 12 m deep loose to medium dense sand (ybulk = 17 kN/m², Ysat = 19 kN/m”), which is underlaid by a deep sandstone layer (Ysat = 19 kN/m²).
