1. An undivided highway section has -4% grade. Calculate the stopping sight distance for both directions. Assumptions: Perception-reaction is 1.5 sec; friction coefficient is 0.40; design speed is 85 km/h. (20p) 2. What are the factors affecting the design speed of highway? (10p) 3. A new metrobus line will be constructed. Maximum speed on the line will be 80 km/h and minimum speed will be 40 km/h. Assumptions: The bus has 360 Hp, empty weight of 9145 kg, capacity of 250 people (assume each person in the bus has 70 kg weight), aerodynamic coefficient of 0.050, the productivity coefficient of 90% and front face dimensions of 2.5 mx 3 m. The rolling resistance coefficient is 0,025 kg/kg. Calculate the maximum grade of metrobus line to be used in design. (40p) 4. Suppose that a compound curve deflection angle is 152º and the tangent length of the compound curve is 390 m (ta) and first simple curve radius (R1) is 250 m and its deflection angle (A2) is 789 a) Draw the compound curve and show the elements on it (10p) b) Calculate the second simple curve radius (15p) c) Check whether R/R2 or R/R, is right or not.
