You are tasked to make a pitch to your supervisor to do
something out of the normal scope of your job, a project you have
to manage.
Create documents that provide a clear picture of what the
project will entail, who will carry out tasks, what costs and risks
are associated with it, and how it will be evaluated.
Don’t be overwhelmed, the documents you create for this do not
have to be dense with loads of information.
Tell a good story of what you want to do and imagine you could
pass these documents on to someone and the work would be able to be
completed.
At a minimum, the final project should include the
following:
1) Case for the Project and Scope Statement (25 points) a. case
for the project
i. This differs from the scope of the work. For instance, you
may want to increase productivity or capabilities and to do so you
will install new equipment.
Installation of the new equipment is the project but it is being
done to increase productivity and capabilities.
b. scope statement i. What is it that is being done? 2) WBS and
Responsibility Matrix (75 points)
a. numerical hierarchy aligned to the WBS
i. work broken down to work package level with activities below
work packages (minimum 12 activities)
b. network diagram aligned with the WBS
i. forward and backward pass including activities and
durations
ii. critical path noted c. responsibility matrix that
coordinates with your WBS and numbering system
3) Budget Linked to WBS (25 points) a. direct and indirect costs
i. Add up your work packages, make some assumptions about indirect
costs and come up with an overall project total.
4) RFP for a Part of the Project (25 points)
a. Assume you have to use an outside vendor for some portion of
the project. Create an RFP for the work or equipment needed.
Include an evaluation instrument which shows how proposals will be
scored.
5) Communication and Risk Management Plan (25 points)
a. Demonstrate you have thought about how communication will
take place and document how you will communicate throughout the
project. Have documents that support your communication plan.
b. Identify the risks of the project and use some type of risk
log to document your responses to identified risks
6) Dashboard (25 points) a. The dashboard is a snapshot of
the project at the time you create the dashboard. Pick a time
during your project and make a dashboard based on what would be
done or needs to be done at that time. The dashboard is a quick way
you can communicate the status and health of the project.
Possibly thinking about creating a computer lab for the
school. I need all these different types of documents to
manage this project.
