FLY the FRIENDLY Sklosl? Commercial aviation has grown exponentially, democratizing travel and rewiring how Americans live work and play, But one part of the industry has remained mostly the same. Piloting is stubbornly monolithic About 95 percent of airline pilots in the U.S. Today are male. Noorly as many are white Few women and people of color aspire to fly planes because they rarely see themselves in today's flight decks. The cost of training and the toll of discrimination can be discouraging, too. United recently launched a flight school with the aim of hiring thousands of pilots in the years ahead at least half of them women or people of color Other carriers have launched similar initiatives, too. Apple Airlines is one of these carriers. Its CEO, Anthony Albright, after making a public announcement about its intentions, drafted the following communication to the Presidents of several HBCUS: If you accept into your civil acronautics degree program every sophomore undergraduate who wishes to pursue that major, Apple Airlines will provide your institution with all the necessary hardware and technology equipment required to instruct these students. My engineers have informed me that one set of this equipment is sufficient for use by five students. Accordingly, for every five new students that your school accepts into your current civil seronautics program, Apple will provide your school with one set of equipment. Because of our commitment to this endeavor, our offer will not be revoked. Albright sent a letter to Thurgood, the President of Marshall University, on June 1, which reached Thurgood's desk on June 5 but that he did not read until June 8. The letter gave Thurgood ten days to respond if Marshall University was interested in the arrangement Thurgood mailed a letter expressing Marshall's interest on the morning of June 14. A few hours later that day Albright called and spoke with Thurgood and a number of other HBCU Presidents to inform them that the technology equipment program had been canceled effective immediately because of turmoil in Europe which had severely impacted funding for the project. Albright did not receive Thurgood's letter until June 19, 1. Thurgood argues that there is a valid contract. Albright on the other hand, argues that there is not. Who is correct? Explain 2. Assume that there was a valid contract between the parties and that Marshall decided the following January, after the semester had started to offer tuition and scholarships to students in their senior year who were enrolled in the civil aeronautics program in order to accept the invitation, each student had to submit a five-page essay about why they were deserving of the honor, Black submitted his essay and it was received before the deadline of Friday at 5pm. On Monday, when Thurgood read Black's essay, Thurgood realized that Black's GPA was below 3.0-3 requirement that by mistake he had neglected to include in his scholarship invitation. Accordingly. Thurgood informed Black that he was not eligible and would not receive any funds. Can Thurgood legally do this? Explain
