а 3. A ripple tank is a shallow tray of water used for demonstrating properties of waves. (See pp. 66-67 of the Baierlein text for a description.) This problem involves a ripple tank having two sections of different depths and therefore different speeds for the ripples. (a) Suppose that crests are produced every 0.040 sec in one section of the ripple tank. The distance between adjacent crests in that section is observed to be 1.2 cm. What are the period, the frequency, and the wave speed for the ripples in this section of the tank? (b) The ripples described in (a) enter the second section of the tank. In this section, the wave speed is 40. cm/s. What are the period, frequency, and wavelength in the second section?
