The equation for Kelvin Temperature Scale is, X Tx = 273.16°K X- XTP where the selected physical property is X and XTp is the property at a fixed point: the triple point of water. (i) For a thermometer using the property of thermal expansion of a fictitious material, the selected property is the length of a bar of the fictitious material. If the length is 30.00 cm when the bar is immersed in water at its triple point, what will be the length of the bar when the it is immersed in a liquid at 100° above the ice point? I (2) (ii) If the length of the bar can only be measured to an accuracy of 0.01 cm, can this thermometer be used to distinguish between the ice point and the triple point of water? (Hint: the ice point is 273.15°K and the triple point is 273.16°K). (3)
