200M Fermentation/Phenol Red test result for Alcaligenes faecalis; this bacteria was inoculated into fermentation broths containing glucose, sucrose or lactose. Tubes were incubated for 30 hours. Results were examined and photos were taken at this time. Left=phenol red broth with glucose Center=phenol red broth with sucrose Right=phenol red broth with lactose Is the color of the broth yellow (like a traffic light) in any of these tubes? Is the small bubble (arrows) in the little tube bigger than the tip of the little tube? Based on what you see, determine if Alcaligenes can ferment any of the 3 sugars. 1 Write your results and interpretation in worksheet table/lab notebook
Fermentation/Phenol Red test result for Proteus mirabilis; this bacteria was inoculated into fermentation broths containing glucose, sucrose or lactose. Tubes were incubated for 30 hours. Results were examined and photos were taken at this time. Left=phenol red broth with glucose Center-phenol red broth with sucrose Right=phenol red broth with lactose Based on the color of the broth in each tube and the size of the bubble in the small tube (brackets and arrows), determine if P mirabilis can ferment any of the 3 sugars. If fermentation occurred, is the sugar fermented into acid, gas or both? Write your results and interpretation worksheet table/lab notebook it
Fermentation/Phenol Red test result for Klebsiella pneumoniae; this bacteria was inoculated into fermentation broths containing glucose, sucrose or lactose. Tubes were incubated for 30 hours. Results were examined and photos were taken at this time. (Citrobacter freundii has the same results too) Left=phenol red broth with glucose Center=phenol red broth with sucrose Right=phenol red broth with lactose Based on color of the broth and the size of the bubbles in the small tubes (brackets), determine if K penumoniae can ferment any of the 3 sugars. If fermentation occurred, is the sugar fermented into acid, gas or both? Write your results and interpretation in worksheet table/notebook Fyi: Citrobacter freundii has the same fermentation results as Klebsiella pneumoniae
