5. The average streamload (suspended and bed) of the Umgeni River, derived from surface runoff, scouring of banks and dragging of material on the river bed, comprises fine sand (675 kg); medium sand (1250 kg); rough sand (3500 kg); silt (550 kg); clay (475 kg) and gravel (5250 kg). Calculate the following: 5.1. Total amount of colloids derived from the dragging of material on river bed ifbank scouring and surface runoff contribute 25% and 55%, respectively, to the total amount of colloids in the Umgeni River. (5 marks) 5.2. Total sand content in bedload of Umgeni River if 65% of fine sand and 25% of medium sand are in suspension. (4 marks)
