A 6.375 litre (389 CID), V-8, four-stroke-cycle, S.I. engine produces a brake mean effective pressure of 300 KPa (42.7 psi), at 1200 rpm with ignition at 25 crank ang le degrees BTDC and at a vehicle speed of 88 Km/hr (55 mph). The dry exhaust gas analysis under these conditions shows CO = 0.1%, CO2 11.25%, O2 5.3%, = 298 ppm, NO = 2000 ppm. Calculate: CH4 a. The hydrogen to carbon ratio in the fuel. b. The air-fuel ratio. C. The emission index for Co, HC and NO in gm per kg of fuel. d. The brake specific fuel consumption, CO, HC, and NO if the vehicle is making 8.4 Km/lit (20 MPG). (Sp. Gr. of gasoline 0.719). = e. The grams per km and (grams per mile) of co, HC and NO.
