2. In a steam power plant, the steam with pressure and temperature of 3 MPa and 500 °C, respectively, is generated from the Boiler, and enters an adiabatic steam turbine and a mixing chamber with the same velocity of 80 m/s. The mass flow rates of the steam that enters the turbine and mixing chamber are 20 kg/s and 5 kg/s, respectively. The steam leaves the steam turbine with pressure and quality of 40 kPa and 80%, respectively, and then enters the mixing chamber with a velocity of 50 m/s. After mixing in the mixing chamber, the steam leaves the chamber with pressure and velocity of 300 kPa and 60 m/s, respectively. Change in potential energy can be neglected. (a) Calculate the power output of the turbine, i.e. Wout; (8 marks) (b) Calculate the ratio of the pipe cross-sectional areas between the outlet and the inlet of the turbine; (3 marks) (c) Calculate the temperature and the specific volume of the steam that leaves the mixing chamber. (9 marks) 10 Turbine Wout Boiler P = 40 kPa X2 = 0.8 V2 = 50 m/s P, = 3 MPa Ti = 50000 V = 80 m/s Mixing chamber P, = 300 kPa Vj = 60 m/s Figure 2
