We performed a fracture mechanics test on a compact tension CT12.5 specimen (W = 25 mm, B = 12.5 mm) made of an aluminum alloy 6061-T6. We first propagate a pre-crack of total length a 15.4 mm by fatigue, after which a Kıc test is conducted. During the Kıc test, the evolution of the load P (in N) was acquired as a function of the crack mouth opening displacement d (in mm). The raw data are given on Blackboard. Questions: 1. Using a plotting software, represent the experimental curve load vs. CMOD. 2. Using the 95% slope method, find graphically the critical load Po and then compute the plane- strain fracture toughness Kic. 3. Verify that the Kıc value found is valid. The tensile yield strength of the material is 289.9 MPa.
