3 In Figure Q3(a), a machine of mass 120 kg is supported on two springs and a damper. The stiffness of each spring is 300 kN/m. During operation at 2000 rpm, a disturbing force of 900 N was recorded. The damping constant is 3000 Ns/m. Determine: (i) The static deflection of the system. (ii) The damping factor and comment on the nature of damping. (iii) The amplitude of steady state vibration. (iv) The transmissibility ratio. (v) The force transmitted to the base of the machine. (2) (3) (3) (3) (3) (b) An electric motor having an unbalance, is mounted on an isolator. By varying the speed of the motor, a resonant amplitude of 20 mm was recorded. Beyond the resonant frequency, the Magnification ratio = 1 and the vibration amplitude approached a fixed value of 5 mm. Determine the damping ratio of the isolator. (6) mass disturbing force damper springs Figure Q3(a)
