1. Patients’ complaints about long wait times have historically
been a major problem in an outpatient center. As an administrator,
you decided to use SPC tools to reduce wait times. Every day, you
measured wait times of 4 randomly-selected patients over a period
of 25 days. Measurements in minutes are shown in the following
table. Use MS Excel to construct appropriate control charts and
specify the control limits including 1-sigma and 2-sigma limits.
Circle out-of-control points based on the Detection Rules.

After you eliminated the assignable
causes associated with the out-of-control points and implemented
improvement solutions, you again measured 4 patients per day over a
period of 25 days. The waiting times in minutes for the
newly improved process are reported in the following table. Use MS
Excel to construct appropriate control charts and specify the
control limits including 1-sigma and 2-sigma
limits. Circle out-of-control points based on the
Detection Rules. What can you conclude from the new
process, as compared with the previous one?
