24. Answer ALL parts of this question. Consider two containers, A and B, of equal volumes (1.00 dm3) and held at a temperature of 273 K. Container A contains only H2 gas at a pressure of 100 kPa, whereas container B holds only O2 gas, at a pressure of 200 kPa. Assume that both gases are ideal. > (a) Determine the number of molecules of gas in each container and comment on the two values. (3 marks) II (b) State the ratio of the root mean square (r.m.s.) speed of the gas molecules in the two containers, and explain your answer. (3 marks) (c) State the ratio of the average kinetic energy (K.E.) of the gas molecules in the two containers, and explain your answer. (2 marks) (d) The two containers are joined together (total volume 2.00 dm3) and the gases are allowed to mix fully. Calculate the partial pressures of the both gases. (2 marks)
