A 2 kg crate is launched with the same initial velocity of 2 m/sup a rough incline of 45° with a kinetic coefficient of friction of0.2.
A debate ensues between three great physicists; Emmy Noether,Shing-Tung Yau, and Juan Maldacena. Ms. Noether predicts that thecrate will take a longer amount of time to slide up the inclinethan to slide down because gravity acts in a direction against thecrate’s motion as it rises and in the direction of the crate’smotion as it falls. Mr. Yau predicts the crate will take an equalamount of time to rise up the incline and to fall down the inclinebecause when projectiles are thrown upwards they take an equalamount of time to rise and fall. Mr. Maldacena predicts that thecrate will take a longer amount of time to slide down the inclinethan to slide up the incline because kinetic friction slows objectsdown more and more as time progresses.
