Malnutrition is a silent emergency, and it continues to be amajor public health problem worldwide, especially in South-EastAsia and sub-Saharan Africa. It is one of the most common causes ofmorbidity and mortality among children and adolescents throughoutthe world. The health consequences of a prolonged state ofmalnutrition among children and adolescents include delayedphysical growth and impaired motor and cognitive development,diminished cognitive performance, lower intellectual quotient (IQ),poor social skills and greater behavioural problems.
