Regulations are law that applies to all the member states. Theyare part of national law and can be enforced through the nationalcourts of the respective states. Regulations are enforced asnational law on the specified date in all the member states.
Example - Regulation (EC) No 726/2004 of the European Parliamentand of the Council of 31 March 2004 laying down Communityprocedures for the authorisation and supervision of medicinalproducts for human and veterinary use and establishing a EuropeanMedicines Agency) (EUR-Lex, n.d.)
Directives are laws that are specific for the member states. Itmay have a specific time mentioned before adapting as national law.Example- DIRECTIVE 2001/83/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THECOUNCIL (EUR-LEX, n.d.)
Decisions are only pertinent to specified bodies. For example,the EU Commission can decide that a member state is acting inbreach of EU law. The decision made by the EU commission has adirect effect on the company, country, or organization that thedecision is issued against.
Recommendations are not enforced like the above three. Themember states can follow the recommendations if they wish or choosenot to. If an institution or country does not followrecommendations, there will not be any legal actions. (Citizensinformation board , 2022)
