Many diet pills have been devised to work with glucose metabolism to promote weight loss. Dinitrophenol (DNP) has been used as a dietary supplement, and is soluble in the inner mitochondrial membrane. DNP results in an increase in H+ protons in the matrix. Predict how DNP has been used to alter the electrochemical gradient across the inner membrane and how this supplement can be used to help with weight loss.
