a. A and B are two mutually exclusive events. State what this means both in words and using set notation. (2 marks) b. James is a salesman for a company and sells two products, X and Y. He visits three different customers each day. For each customer, the probability that James sells product X is 1/3 and the probability that he sells Y is 1/4. The sale of product X is independent of product Y during any visit, and the results of the three visits are mutually independent. Calculate the probability that James will: i. sell both products, X and Y, on the first visit; ii. sell only one product during the first visit; iii. make no sales of product X during the day; iv. make at least one sale of product Y during the day. (8 marks) c. Events A,B and C have the following probabilities: i. Show that A and B are mutually exclusive. ii. Show that C does not imply A. iii. Compute P(B∪C). iv. Compute P(B∣A).
