The rise of cultured pearls or pearl farms have made natural
pearls very rare and have limited pearl fishing. However, a
significant number of natural pearls from wild oysters can still be
found in the Australian Indian Ocean waters. Of the 5 kinds of
pearls in the wild, the probability of encountering pink
pearls is 0.05; white pearls is 0.43; purple
pearls is 0.03; blue pearls is 0.25; and
black pearls is 0.08. Calculate the likelihood of each of
the following events.
a. The probability of not encountering
a pink pearl.
b. The probability of encountering a pink pearl.
c. The probability of not encountering
a blue pearl.
