(a) Given: A metal single crystal with a cross-section (10 mm×10 mm) and gauge length (25 mm) is loaded as shown in the figure. A tensile force is applied and only one slip system is activated. The applied force causing the crystal to yield is: Fyield ​=6500 N. The crystal has been oriented so that both normal to the slip plane and the slip direction in the active slip system form 45∘ angles with the tensile axis. What is the critical resolved shear stress (in MPa ) of this metal? (5 pts) Note 1: 1 N/mm2=1 MPa; Note 2: For full credit, you must write the calculation processes as well. (b) Consider a single crystal of Al (FCC) oriented such that a tensile stress is applied along a [100] direction. If slip occurs on a (111) plane in a [101] direction, and if slip is initiated at an applied tensile stress of 350MPa, compute the critical resolved shear stress.
