6. Bolted bracket The bolted bracket shown on figure Q6 is to carry a factored load of 230kN at an eccentricity to the centreline of the column of 350 mm. The column is a 305×305×97 Universal Column (UKC) and both it and the 15 mm thick bracket are in S275 steel. If the bracket is to have a maximum depth of 350 mm, as shown on the figure, choose a suitable arrangement and size of non-preloaded hex head Grade 8.8 bearing bolts to carry the bracket load. If you wish, you may use the bolt capacities in the Member Capacities tables in the P363 Section Tables (i.e. the pink pages) rather than calculating the bolt strengths according to the clauses of either Eurocode 3 or Concise Eurocode P362.
