2. A gate width of 0.11 m is in the side of a dam wall angled at 35∘ to the vertical as depicted in Figure Q2. The gate is 3 m long and is hinged at the top. A cable is attached to the bottom of the gate and connected to a spherical float of mass 6 kg. The cable length is such that when there are 49 m of water above the hinge, the cable is taut, and exactly half the float is submerged below the water. (a) Why the dam wall usually curved or angled?
