A load of P = 89 kN is supported bya structure consisting of rigid bar ABC, twoidentical solid bronze [E = 107 GPa] rods, and a solid steel [E = 191 GPa] rod, asshown. The bronze rods (1) each have a diameter of 16 mmand they are symmetrically positioned relative to the center rod(2) and the applied load P. Steel rod (2) has adiameter of 27 mm. All bars are unstressed before theload P is applied; however, there isa 1.6-mm clearance in the bolted connectionat B.Assume L1 = 3.1 mand L2 = 1.6 m.Determine:(a) the normal stresses in the bronze and steel rods(σ1, σ2).(b) the downward deflection ν of rigidbar ABC.
I've been stuck on this problem for a while, I really appreciatethe help!
