2. (Former exam question) Thin heaters are used in rear car windows to remove fog and frost. Below is a simple 1-D model for a rear car window defroster. Assume that the heater has been turned on for a long time. The temperature inside the car is T∞,t=22∘C with a convection coefficient of hi=10 W/(m2⋅K) and the temperature outside the car is T∞,o=−10∘C with a convection coefficient of ho=75 W/(m2.K). The thermal conductivity of window is k=1.5 W/(m.K) and it is 5 mm thick. The uniform heat flux from the heater is 1500 W/m2. (a) Determine the temperature of the thin heater. Hint: Make two circuits that connect to the heater. Use energy conservation at heater surface to get an equation for heater temperature. (b) Determine the outer temperature of the window. (c) Determine the expression for temperature distribution inside the window.
