An arc welding source generates 5000W of power. The process has
a heat transfer efficiency of 0.66 while transferring to the
surface of a metal part. The heat impinges the surface in a
circular area, about 90% of the transferred power lies within a
circle of diameter = 5mm. What is the power densities in the 5-mm
diameter inner circle? Select the closest value.
This answer was 151 W/mm^2.
If the melting factor for the material used in the previous
welding process is 0.5 and the unit energy for melting is 150
J/mm3, how much volume of weld will be deposited in 1 second? Note
that W = J/s.
