A 10,000-ft drillstring composes of a 9,000ft long pipe (ID=3”
and OD=4.5”, drill collar ID=2” and OD=6”). Steel density is 65
ppg. For a vertical borehole, a 10 ppg water-based mud was used to
drilling the borehole. What is the axial stress in the drillpipe at
8000ft?. Assume WOB is 30,000lbf.
