Q2. A cylindrical battery with a diameter of 1.5-cm and a length of 5-cm is kept at a constant temperature of 40°C on one of its ends. The battery has an average thermal conductivity of 12.5 W/m.K. A rod is perfectly attached at the bottom of the cylindrical battery. The rod is made from pure copper with a length of 6-cm and diameter of 1.5-cm, as shown in Figure Q2. The function of the rod is to provide removal of heat from the battery via conduction, and the end of the rod is exposed to a controlled ambient temperature of 15°C with a heat transfer coefficient of 35 W/m².K. The battery and rod are assumed to be perfectly insulated at their outer surface. The insulator covers the outer surface of the battery and rod, which is from the tip of the battery (Point A) to the end of the rod (Point B). a) State the importance of insulator with respect to the construction of thermal network of the system. b) State your assumptions to complete the analysis. c) Sketch the thermal resistance network for this problem d) Calculate heat transfer rate across the system e) Determine the temperature between the battery and rod B Tambient = 15°C h = 35 W/m'.K Pure Copper 6-cm 5-cm T-40° Cylindrical battery Figure Q2.
