Q.4 Show that the head loss hf in a hydraulic jump can be expressed as follows: h; (D2-D) 4DD2 where D, and D2 are the water depths before and after the jump, respectively. [6 marks] (b) (c) Give a brief account on the classification of water surface and the 12 possible combinations of surface profile. [6 marks] Analyze the water surface profile in a long rectangular channel (Manning's coefficient n=0.016). The channel is 3.5 m wide, the flow rate is 32 m?/s, and there is an abrupt change in slope from 0.0013 to 0.0124. Determine normal depths and critical depths at both the mild and steep slopes of the channel. Make a sketch showing normal depths, critical depths, and water surface profile types. [8 marks)
