Problem 2: Deflection Calculation (12 marks) Determine the maximum deflection of the beam loaded as shown in the figure below using Conjugate beam method. Also draw the deflected shape of the beam. El is uniform throughout the beam. A is a roller support, and C is fixed support. There is an internal hinge/pin at B. The value of P must be calculated using your student ID and the following equation: P (kN) = [(/Student ID ) - c]/4 Round result UP to the nearest whole number (see example below) The value of Cis given in following table. Student ID First digit of your student ID starts with 211,212, 213, 214 and 215 First digit of your student ID starts with 216 and 217 First digit of your student ID starts with 218 and 219 First digit of your student ID starts with 22 All other student ID c 14500 14600 14700 14770 9500 For example, if your student ID is 211456789, then sqrt(211456789) - 14541.55; C from table for student ID started with 211 = 14500. So, P =(14541.55-14500/4 - 10.39 and rounded up to nearest whole number. Hence P = 11 kN.
This is an example only, students must use P as per the above equation using your own student ID number for all calculations involved in Problem 2. 4P 2P to B 6 m 2 m 3 m 2 m * 2m my
