Anna came to her general practitioner complaining of headaches,nausea, and problems sleeping. She tells her doctor that this hasbeen going on for approximately 6 months. When asked to elaborateAnna says that she has recently moved to a new town following thebreak up of a 6 -year relationship. She begin to shake and cry asshe talks about her problems sleeping and how she wakes up ‘at theslightest sound’, her heart starts pounding, and she gets the gunfrom her night stand she bought when she ended her relationshipwith her ex-boyfriend. She also tells her doctor that the only wayshe can go back to sleep is if she is holding her weapon eventhough she often awakes again due to violent dreams involving herex.
