Cryptic species:
Have diverged in outward morphology but not in theability to exchange genes
Could be common in some taxonomic groups, so there mightbe a lot of biodiversity that has gun unnoticed
Are ones for which there is no impediment that wouldkeep them from coming back together in the future (homogenized byhybridization)
Should be very rare in all taxonomic groups ofmulticellular organisms give what we know about the evolution ofmorphology.
Are ones that mimic other species that are notparticularly related to them
Are probably only “cryptic” to us, but recognizable aspotential mates for same-species males and females.
