Gram stain: Gram negative bacteria
bacilli (rod shaped)
Observations:
Oxidase test: no color change
negative result
organism doesnt have the
cytochrome c
Citrate: green color
organism uses another carbon source
TSI: red slant/ yellow butt
organism doesnt ferment lactose/sucrose
but does ferment glucose
Organisms removed:
Since Oxidase was negative, the organisms
A. faecalis and P. aeruginosa were removed
due to them being oxidase positive.
The organism then turned out to be Citrate
negative, the organisms E. aerogenes,
S. typhimurium, A. baylyi, and S. marcescens
were removed because of them being Citrate
positive.
Lastly, the organism E. coli (A/A) and
P. vulgaris (A/ H2S+) were removed since the
organism had a red slant and yellow butt (K/A)
which means the unknown organism is S.
flexneri.
I cannot see the picture clearly. C. Short Discussion Essay: Use Calibri 10 pts font and double space your text. Write in the third person-no l's or we's or the be and nomenclature. Use the titles before you write each section. Failure to follow these directions will result in points deducted. Flow Chart Discussion: (1-3 pages) This discussion should be an explanation of the process of how (in what order and why) you did each step of Identification. In other words, walk me through the logic and steps of your process that you followed in your flow chart. O O O O . 0 Identify the test/stain Indicate the observations of a positive result and a negative result for each test/stain Explain what each positive result and each negative result means (interpretation) for each test/stain Identify the organisms that are removed from your possible identification at each stage of the flow chart, and which organisms remain as possible identifications at these steps as well. You should also include the above information for the two confirmation results that you used to 'doublecheck' your identification correctness. Experimental Error Discussion: (no more than 1 page) You must identify the ONE experimental error that occurred or could have occurred in the determination of the ID of your unknown. Experimental errors can and do happen. If you did experience an error, please describe the error, how it happened, and how you would prevent this next time. Even if you did not experience an experimental error, you will need to discuss how these errors can happen. You must include a short explanation of the possible reasons for the discrepancy-think of several possible reasons, but do not write me a novel.
