Hints: balance O first in theOx equation by adding the appropriate # of H2O—then addthe appropriate # of H+ (don’t forget the H inHSO3-). Then, after you’ve checked your massbalance, add up charges on both sides (remember the + charge inH+ multiples by all the stoichiometric coefficient onH+). The Red equation only needs charge balance, sothat’s easy!
Ox: HSO3-(aq) --> à SO42-(aq)
Red: MnO4- (aq) ---> àMnO42-(aq)
Ox: HSO3-(aq) --> à SO42-(aq)
Red: MnO4- (aq) ---> àMnO42-(aq)
