You would like to make 100.0 mL of an acetic acid/acetate buffer at pH 4.00. You plan to mix 5.00 mL of 1.0 M acetic acid and some amount of solid sodium acetate, then dilute the mixture to 100 mL. Calculate the mass of sodium acetate that must be added. a. The Ko of acetic acid is 1.8 x 10-5. b. Solid sodium acetate comes as a hydrate (NaC₂H30₂ 3H₂O), and thus has a molar mass of 135.08 g/mol.
