6) A boring bar will be used to finish the center hole on a propeller, as shown below. Although the machining is to be done on a CNC mill, a jig is desirable to hold the boring tool rigidly from both sides to increase boring precision. Assume that the boring will produce a force of 250 N per unit width of cut, for the planned feed of 50 µm/rev. The boring bar is of circular cross section and is made of steel. The length between supports is 10 cm. Look up the formula for the inertia (1) and the modulus of elasticity (E) to be used using your favorite book on Mechanics of Materials, or the Internet. a. At what position along the cut will the boring bar see the maximum deflection? b. What should be the maximum width of cut to keep the deflection of the boring bar within the quantity ymax (in mm)? Solve algebraically. Set your constants so the formula that you are going to provide returns the answer in mm. Bearing -Workpiece Pilot bushing Pilat
