A hot gas at 300°C with convection coefficient 200 W/m²-K is flowing through a steel tube of outside diameter 60 mm and thickness 10 mm. It is covered with an insulating material of thickness 30 mm, having a thermal conductivity of 0.5 W/m-K. The outer surface of insulation is exposed to ambient air at 30°C with convection coefficient of 20 W/m²-K. Calculate the following in Sl unit: a. heat loss to air from 6 m long tube. b. the temperature drops due to thermal resistance of the hot gases, steel tube, the insulation layer and the outside air. Take thermal conductivity of steel 50 W/m-K.
