Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, regardlessof sex, race, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, age,disability, or any other status. For this assessment task, you arerequired to write an essay (1000 – 1200 words) that is based on oneof the following groups who, at various times and in variouscontexts, have not had their human rights protected orpromoted:

• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

In your essay, you are required to review, analyze and draw fromrelevant human rights documents (listedbelow) and from current evidence to explain:
· The obligations ofgovernments to promote and protect the human rights and freedoms ofyour chosen group (i.e., the obligations of governments to act incertain ways or refrain from certain acts).
· The ways in whichAustralian government(s) have not and/or do not meet specificobligations under specific conventions/articles to promote andprotect the human rights and freedoms of your chosen group.Examples can be based on past and/or present legislation, policiesand practices.
· The ways in whichAustralian government(s) do meet their obligations under specificconventions/articles to promote and protect the human rights andfreedoms of your chosen group. Examples should be based on up todate legislation, policies and practices.
