John is a 17-year-old male. He is a Caucasian, heterosexual, single junior in high school. He has had a few confrontations with the police, mostly due to his parents calling the police as a last disciplinary result. He has not been arrested, though he has been to court for misconduct charges. He primarily uses marijuana, but once high, he drinks large quantities. Occasionally done zanex (smoker). He is insecure and has admitted he has chosen the wrong crowd and done/does regrettable things (involving fights, drug selling scene [he sells]). Says he often uses it to alleviate feelings of guilt. Parents are divorced (father recovering cocaine addict). Wealthy middle class, however, he has been diagnosed with ADD (at an early age). Has had a major problem in social groups (peers make fun of his being in special ed. courses). He is no longer in special ed., but is failing most of his courses, those he isn't he has either C's or D's. One hobby was basketball, but he did not make the team because of poor grades. As a result, he has hung with the wrong crowd and his drug/alcohol use had increased. Parents concerned because he has been in a series of fights, some resulting in hospitalization (twice). He has also been suspended because of school fights. With this and bad grades, parents and school are sending him to a therapist. Started smoking pot at age 14, drinking as well. Smokes pot frequently-anywhere from weekends only to daily, thinks it is normal because his friends do the same.
