- If I use an author's full sentence, using his or her exactwords/wording.- If I use a term from an author, if it is his or her/exactwords/wording.- If I use a partial quote from an author (perhaps half of asentence), if it is- his or her exact words/wording.
2. A paraphrase helps you avoid using too many direct quotes ina paper. Usually, most professors do not want to see papers thatare long strings of quotes with little to no of your originalthought in between. A paraphrase happens when...? A paraphraserequires....? Choose all that are correct
- ...you take someone else's thoughts and rephrase them intoyour own words.- ...you take several phrases word for word out of an externalsource and mix them up with a few of your own.- ...you take the idea of an author and search for synonyms (i.e."good" becomes "well") to make that author's ideas your own, leaving the same sentence structure in place.
- ...you need to give a parenthetical citation to outline theauthor's work, even though you don't need direct quotation marks ("") for a paraphrase.
