Determine the total Active Thrust on the back of a vertical
wall, 5m high, which is
supporting two soil types:
i. a granular backfill with bulk unit weight 19 kN/m3, saturated
unit weight 20
kN/m3 and angle of friction 30°;
ii. a clay deposit 3.0 m below the top of the wall with c’=11
kN/m2, φ’= 27° and
γ = 21 kN/m3.
Indicate all relevant values from your calculations on appropriate
diagrams.
The water table is exactly 1.1m above the top of the clay.
