SBI4U Article Summary Purpose: The purpose of this task is to demonstrate your ability to critically read scientific articles, accurately summarize them, and provide a reflection on the article and the science itself. Procedure: Choose an article related to the unit that is being studied. You can find articles from any reliable magazine, newspaper, journal, either online or in print. Google Scholar is a great way to find electronic articles. Examples of reliable sources include: Ottawa Citizen Globe and Mail Nature Popular Science National Post Scientific American National Geographic TDSB Virtual Library After you finish reading an article, you will be required to write a response. The full length of each response should be 1 page. Your response should include: • A summary of the information presented in the article. In your own words, describe the information conveyed in the article. Be short and concise. This part should not be more than 5-7 sentences. • Explain the science in the article. Here, you will be marked on your ability to understand and relate the scientific principles in the article. You will be expected to prove you understand the key scientific principles, any reactions taking place, and terms and definitions. This part will encompass the majority of your response. • Describe your opinion. Explain what you think about the topic presented in the article. Important questions you should consider: Why is this topic important? How does it affect the way we live? Do you agree/disagree with any opinions expressed? What implications does this have for the future • Bibliography: Include a bibliography citing the article and any research you have done to support your opinions (in APA format). A citation software such as https://www.citationmachine.net/ is a good place to help you start the format. However, they are not always correct. Use Purdue University's APA Writing Guide to check your references: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and ... nd_style_g uide/general format.html • Format: Minimum of 1 page, maximum of 2 pages (APA may be excluded from the page count). Times New Roman (12pt), Calibri (11pt), Arial (11pt) are good, legible fonts. Please use single spaces. If you chose to include an image, embed the image into the text.
