According to the United Nations the sustainability of oceans is under severe threat from pollution, and its effect on marine ecosystems via the process of eutrophication. Eutrophication causes excessive growth of plants and algae, affecting light and oxygen levels in oceans which further harms marine ecosystems. Data from 50 randomly selected countries was collected and a 2-way table, showing the country counts for pollution (Beach_Litter_Cat) and eutrophication (Green_Shade_Cat) categories has been provided below. Each variable has 4 categories resembling quartile cut-off values. The table is also provided in the QuestionB.xlsx file. Green_Shade_Cat Beach_Litter_Cat Pale Low 4 Moderate 7 High 2 Extreme 1 Light Medium 0 4 5 2 4 3 4 1 Dark 3 3 2 5
(a) (1 mark) The sample proportion of countries with a High Beach_Litter_Cat category and Medium Green_Shade_Cat category is equal to (3dp) (b) (1 mark) The sample percentage of countries that are either a Low or Moderate Beach_Litter_Cat categories is equal to (Odp) % (c) (1 mark) The combined number of countries that have Moderate or High Beach_Litter_Cat categories, that also have a Pale Green_Shade_Cat category is equal to (Odp)
