2. You are designing a W-Shape beam of preferred material. The length of the beam is 35' and it is loaded as shown below. The beam is continuously braced. The beam should have a nominal depth of 18" due to architectural constraints (W18 MEMBER). Wp=0.45 kip/ft W₁=0.75 kip/ft (continuously braced) L=35'-0" a. Select a the lightest member based on the deflection live load limit of L/360. (HINT: Find min. Req. Moment of Inertia) b. Check your selected beam using the requirements of Chapter F. c. The beam is now braced at third points rather than braced continuously. Verify if the lightest member selected in part a and b can still be used.
