'In a deposit of fine sand the water table is 3.5 m below the surface. The soil to the height of 0.8 m above the water table is saturated by capillary water, while the soil above capillary zone may be assumed to be dry. The saturated and dry unit weights, respectively, are 20 and 17.9 kN/m³. Calculate the effective vertical stress (kPa) in the sand 6.51 m below the surface. (3 d.p). Use unit weight of water of 9.8 kN/m³.
