Sea anemones will sting fish that come too close as a means ofprotection. Clownfish, however, exude a mucous that protects themfrom anemone stings. Clownfish form close associations withspecific anemones, entering them to escape predation, removingdebris from them, and feeding the anemone by defecating within them(fertilizer).
