Procedure: We are going to do this lab by using a simulation. In the simulation, we are going to drop various objects from the roof of a tower and record their time of fall. (Please refer to the lecture video) The recoded time of fall of various objects along with the height of the tower is given. By using the time of fall and the tower height we will solve for the acceleration of gravity of earth. Part A: (in a vacuum, no air resistance) • First, we are dropping a ping pong ball, a golf ball, a soccer ball and a watermelon from the roof of a virtual tower by using the simulation (Please see the lecture video). The tower height and the time of fall of each of the object is given below. Height of the tower (h) (Height from where each of the objects are dropped): 40.0 m Objects Ping Pong Ball Golf Ball Soccer Ball Watermelon Time of Fall (t) (in seconds) 2.86 2.86 2.86 2.86 Table 1 Acceleration of Gravity (g) (in m/s²) (from the calculations) • Calculate the acceleration of gravity (g) by using the following equation: I 2h 9t² where g= acceleration of gravity h=height from where object is dropped (height of the tower) t= time of fall Fill in the table 1 with the calculated acceleration of gravity (g) value.
